How to change chrome settings->On startup option when it is grey out?

The following instructions are for Windows:

• Run Registry Editor by typing regedit.exe 
• In the Windows Registry, find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome
• Change the values as you wish

How to fix "adb devices" can't find Android device on Windows

"adb devices" couldn't find Android device when it was plugged in and USB debugging enabled

How to solve it

1. Adding the new device reference in android_winusb.inf
in C:\Android\sdk\extras\google\usb_driver

Right click your Android device in your computer's "Device Manager", select "properties", Details Tab and from the dropdown Property list select "Hardware Ids". Copy the 2 values in your clipboard.

Edit the android_winusb.inf file included with the Google USB Drivers (the location on my machine is "C:\Android\sdk\extras\google\usb_driver" and add these lines using the 2 values in your clipboard:

; your device model
%SingleAdbInterface%        = USB_Install, Clipboard first value
%CompositeAdbInterface%     = USB_Install, Clipboard second value

after the last lines of the [Google.NTx86] section.

2. Updated the drivers in your computer's Device Manager. (You need admin right to do this)

Device Manager -> Portable devices, right click the Android device in Device Manager -> Change settings (need admin right), uninstall the Android usb driver completely

unplug your Android device, re-plug back in,
update the driver, and manually point it to the google usb driver in "C:\Android\sdk\extras\google\usb_driver" (just select this directory)

3. In Command window, run 'adb devices'.
At this point adb should recognize the device (as an unauthorized device)

4. You will then see a dialog on your Android device, asking whether to accept an RSA key that allows debugging through this computer. Click Ok

(if you don't see this dialog on your phone, unplug your phone from the computer and plug it back in.)

run 'adb devices' again
This time the device will be authorized.

The best audio format

wav, the most widespred format, developed by Microsoft, lossless format, used in recording and editing stage.

Computer monitors have higher resolutions than most televisions. As of July 2002, 1024 × 768 Extended Graphics Array was the most common display resolution. Many web sites and multimedia products were re-designed from the previous 800 × 600 format to the layouts optimized for 1024 × 768. The availability of inexpensive LCD monitors has made the 5:4 aspect ratio resolution of 1280 × 1024 more popular for desktop usage.

Many computer users including CAD users, graphic artists and video game players run their computers at 1600 × 1200 resolution (UXGA) or higher if they have the necessary equipment. Other recently available resolutions include oversize aspects like 1400 × 1050 SXGA+ and wide aspects like 1280 × 800 WXGA, 1440x900 WXGA+, 1680 × 1050 WSXGA+, and 1920 × 1200 WUXGA. A new more-than-HD resolution of 2560 × 1600 WQXGA was released in 30" LCD monitors in 2007. X3DOM not working in Firefox

Firefox should support WebGL natively. If your Firefox browser shows that WebGL is not supported and your display driver is not blacklisted, try the following:

1. Type about:config in Firefox address line
2. Type in the search box webgl
3. Set webgl.force-enabled = true
4. Close the browser and launch it again

View the System Information window

1. Click Start
   
   type system in the Start Search box, and then click System Information in the Programs list
2. When System Summary is selected in the navigation pane, the operating system is displayed as follows:

• For a 64-bit version operating system, x64-based PC appears for the System type under Item.
• For a 32-bit version operating system, x86-based PC appears for the System type under Item

How to create free iPhone ringtones

1. Download your favourite song, usually in mp3 format, to your computer
2. Drag it to iTunes Music Library
3. Right click the song in iTunes Music Library, make sure that it is shorter than 30 seconds, then choose 'Create AAC Version'
4. Drag the new AAC version to your computer
5. Rename the file extension from '.m4a' to '.m4r'
6. Drag the m4r file to iTunes > Library > Tones. If you don't see the Tones folder check the Preference > General > Show:, check 'Tones'.
7. Plug in your iPhone. Confirm that you have checked "Sync Tones" on the Tones tab of your iTunes sync settings.
8. Sync
9. You will find the new ring tone in your iPhone ringtones.

Chinese characters in Microsoft Outlook 2007

Go to Tools > Options > Mail Format (tab) and then: Select drop down option "Western European (Windows)" encoding for outgoing messages

For incoming messages that are not readable, open the message, click on "Other Actions" in the "Actions" tab > Encoding > Chinese Simplified. The type of Chinese Simplified font doesn't seem to matter much. This can still leave unreadable characters in the subject line though.

3ds Max PathDeform modifier

1. To stretch along a path (line), use PathDeform modifier, "Pick path" button, then increase the value of "Stretch". Good method to make tree branch, octopus tentacles, etc.

2. To lathe a line (spline), if the result is not right. Changing "Modifier List > Lathe > Axis" may fix it.

Game Maker 7

Don't put "set lives" etc. in the Create event of the obj_controller, instead, put in the the "Game start" event. Because when the player loses one life and "restart the current room", the actions in Create event of the obj_controller will be execurated and you will see your number of lives doesn't decrease by 1.

3ds Max increase/decrease mesh resolution

Tessellate modifier subdivides faces in the current selection. It's particularly useful for smoothing curved surfaces for rendering, and creating additional mesh resolution for other modifiers to act on.

MultiRes does the opposite. It decreases the LOD of the selected mesh. You can select a percentage or set a vert count limit.
